How Pet-Friendly Hotels Work
It used to be that you could only find pet-friendly accommodations at a bed and breakfast, but that is quickly changing. More and more people are reluctant to leave behind their pets when they travel and major hotel chains have taken notice. A hotel that welcomes our four-legged friends is considered good business and travelers couldn’t agree more. If you’re planning a holiday with your pet, it’s important to understand the ins and outs of pet-friendly hotels and what they have to offer.
1. Why hotels allow pets?
Many hotels do not allow pets for two reasons. The primary reason is that they worry about the pet’s behavior. The second reason is because of the administrative issues like providing facilities, cleaning, etc.
However, these days many hotels have started allowing pets. The pet industry in 2018 was worth $72.56 billion. A large amount of people in the world, especially Americans, are spending money on their pets. Hotels, understanding this trend, want to benefit from it as well. By being pet-friendly, hotels can reach out to guests, giving them an incentive to stay at the hotel.
2. How does it work?
Hotels allow pets and usually charge for it. When a hotel allows pets without providing any extra facilities, they may allow pets for free. However, most hotels provide some facilities. They can charge anywhere between $25 to $100.
Additionally, some hotels have rooms that are meant for pet owners. These rooms include amenities for pets like a pet bowl, leash, rag or cloth for the pet, material to clean up the mess made by the pet, waste disposal covers, and even a box or separate area for the pet.
Some hotels may also offer treats and food for pets at an extra charge. The hotel would pet-proof the room to prevent pets from chewing up wires and expensive upholstery. Covering sockets and other such precautions would also be provided.
3. Pet-friendly hotels rules
Before booking a trip, make sure to know and follow the hotel’s rules so that you and you furry friend are safe:
- Informing guests about restricted areas in the hotel where pets cannot be taken.
- Prohibiting the pet from staying in the room or moving around without its owner or a leash.
- Maintenance charges for cleaning pet toilets or any mess made by the pet. Guests can do it on their own to avoid charges.
- Rules regarding pets disturbing other guests. Pet owners are held liable for the behavior of their pets. If the pet creates noise or causes damage, the guests may be asked to leave or pay a penalty. Some hotels may charge a deposit to cover such damages.
- Some hotels offer a pet-sitting service where they have someone manage the pet, feed them, and manage their needs while the guests go out and enjoy their holiday. There would be an extra charge for this.
Pet owners can now enjoy their holiday with their pets without having to worry about their needs. Pet-friendly hotels are preferred by most people these days and are soon becoming a necessity for pet owners.
